This season’s opening concert will celebrate childhood, the start of composers' outputs, and enduring creative sparks. Other stops along the way include works by Mozart, Kevin Lau, Joseph Suk, and Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson. The night's string players visit Port Milford from their leadership positions in Montreal's Orchestre de l'Agora, the Harlem Chamber Players, and the Mannes School of Music. They are joined by JUNO-award winning pianist Angela Park.

St. Mary Magdalene

For three decades, Canadian Opera Company concertmaster Marie Berard, musical polymath Rohan Gregory, and National Ballet cellist Paul Widner have collaborated as the Port Milford Chamber Players. This summer, they are joined by two former MPM students: Vancouver Symphony Orchestra principal violist Emilie Grimes and New York-based pianist Charlotte Hill. "Romanceros" takes its name from the subjects of Gabriella Lena Frank's musical melting pot, Leyendas. It nods to the other works of love on the program: Schubert's Quartetsatz and Schumann's Piano Trio in D Minor. With this concert and title, we celebrate the memory of the kind, gentle, and ever romantic Dr. Arthur Cole, a founding Board member and dear friend of MPM. In honor of Dr. Cole’s adored and adoring wife of 28 years, Judy Cole, the MPM season will close with Borodin’s String Quartet No. 2, written for the composer’s wife on the occasion of their twentieth wedding anniversary.
