Music at Port Milford Adult Chamber Intensive 2023

If you are pining away to play chamber music with friends, enjoy the beautiful Ontario countryside, relax at Sand Banks Provincial Park, tour Prince Edward County’s vineyards, and join in the magic of Music at Port Milford, join us for our 2nd annual Adult Chamber Intensive.

Each day will be filled with assigned chamber coaching sessions with faculty, sight reading parties, conducting lessons, rehearsals, madrigal singing and time to enjoy Prince Edward County (named by Travel and Leisure as one of the best 50 places to travel). Camp meals tickets will be made available for purchase, or participants may choose to take advantage of the wide array of local eateries.

Participants are free to find their own off-campus accommodations, or take advantage of the shared accommodations we have set aside in the Converted Marysburgh School in Milford (reservations must be made through Meg: director@musicatportmilford.org - by March 31).

SCHEDULE

Tuesday, July 25

  • 3:30 - 5:00 Greeting and Gathering at Port Milford

  • 5:45 Full camp dinner “on the house”

  • 6:45 Option to join full camp choir with Becca Kenneally (masks required)

Wednesday - Saturday

Mornings:

  • 9:00 - 10:00 chamber coaching

  • 11:30 Conducting class with Maestro Michael Newnham (optional)

  • 12:45 Lunch (meal tickets available)*

Afternoons:

  • 1:30 - 2:15 Full camp quiet time. Adults who wish to stay on campus during quiet time are invited to use this time for quiet reading, a canoe ride or a dip by the lake (faculty and academy students are resting during this time)

  • 2:15 Private Lesson on assigned day (1 lesson included in fee); Optional madrigal singing with Becca Kenneally

  • 3:30 Chamber group rehearsals

Evenings:

  • 5:45 Join the campers for a meal on the deck* or discover eateries in the area.

  • 6:45-7:45 Join the MPM Chorus!

  • Wednesday: Informal reading session and party in private home.

  • Saturday: Faculty Performance at St Mary Magdalene, Picton - Tickets provided! Penderecki String Quartet with pianist Mikael Darmanie

Sunday

  • 2:00pm Student Performance (Orchestra, Chamber and Chorus)

  • If working up a chamber piece to performance level and sharing it with an audience gives you the sense of accomplishment you are looking for, adult groups are invited to join this Sunday afternoon concert. Additional option to perform with MPM chorus and/or madrigals group.


FACULTY

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must be above the age of 19.

All applicants must submit an audio or video recording of two contrasting pieces

MINIMUM STRING LEVEL QUALIFICATIONS

Proficiency in 3 octave scales, sight-reading skills,
ensemble experience

Applicants should play at a minimum of a
Royal Conservatory of Music Level 7, or its equivalent

Violin: Nardini concerto in E minor*
Viola: Telemann Concerto in G*
Cello: Vivaldi Sonata in e minor*
Bass: Marcello Sonata*

Submissions should be made online, meeting the minimum level requirements as outlined above

TUITION

$450 fee includes dinner on Tuesday, July 25th, daily chamber music coaching, daily conducting classes, one private lesson, open reading sessions, performance opportunity, and option to join the full camp chorus and/or madrigal group.

Meals may be found off campus, or meal tickets may be purchased for campus meals:

All meals included, Tuesday dinner July 25-  Sunday lunch July 30: $115 CAD

One day meal pass: $25 CAD

Single meals: Breakfast $5︱Lunch $10︱Dinner $10 CAD

HOUSING

Participants may take advantage of the accommodations below, or find their own off-campus housing.

New this year! Spectacular opportunity for accommodations, Tuesday - Sunday in Converted South Marysburgh School. Reservations must be made by March 31. Make your reservations through Meg: director@musicatportmilford.org.

Rates:

  • 4 person classroom suite with kitchen $375 CAD for 5 nights ($75/night per person)

  • 3 person classroom suite with kitchen $500 CAD for 5 nights($100/night per person)

  • 2 person classroom suite with kitchen  $750 CAD for 5 nights ($150/night per person)
